What advantages does MB NET offer over traditional methods of payment?

The great advantage of using MB NET is the security it offers. With MB NET it is not necessary to provide traders with your bank card details, as users receive identification and a secret code when they join the system that enables a temporary card to be created with a fixed amount limit and expiry time for purchases. This avoids using data from your real bank card.

Where can I use the MB NET service?

The MB NET service can be used to make payments to any national or foreign trader that accepts the scheme (American Express, MasterCard or VISA) valid for the card you used to register in the system.

How can I join MB NET

To join MB NET you will need to have a (debit or credit) card issued by a financial institution participating in the system. Subscription is free of charge and can be effected through any ATM in the Multibanco network or through the channels made available by the bank which issued your card.

If you opt to join through a Multibanco ATM, you must:
1 - Introduce your bank card and type in your secret code;
2 - Choose the "MBNet Service" option;
3 - Type in the MBNet secret code you intend to use (6 numbers), which you should memorise;
4 - Re-type your MBNet secret code as confirmation;
5 - If you wish, you may also type in a maximum daily purchase limit (optional) of at least 5 euros;
6 - Confirm the data.

When these procedures have been completed, you will receive a slip containing your MB NET identification which can be used, together with your secret code, to make online purchases.

For security reasons, your secret code is not printed on the slip.

How do I perform payments using MB NET?

Provided that the trader accepts payments through the scheme that is valid for the card you used to join MB NET (American Express, MasterCard or Visa), you should go straight to the MB NET site - www.mbnet.pt or click on the MB NET icon (previously installed on your browser) and choose the "Payments" option to request a temporary card.

After entering your identification and secret code:

1 - Define the amount you require for the temporary card. This must cover the total cost of the payment (including, for example, postage and any exchange rate differences in the case of purchases made outside the Euro zone);
2 - Register the data supplied by MBNet to make the purchase: the temporary card number, expiry date and CVV2 and CVC2 (a series of three numbers which may be requested by the trader and which act as an additional security guarantee);
3 - Indicate on the trader's site the data provided by MBNet and receive confirmation of payment.
